Final Fridays - Art Market

Date: May 26, 2017

Location: 75 King St. S., Waterloo, ON

The pop up Art Market will be returning to Final Fridays in Waterloo Public Square from May to September!

Featuring artists and crafters from Waterloo and surrounding areas, the Final Fridays Art Market is a new opportunity to pick up a treasure or two while enjoying an evening out in the city's core.

The event is free to attend and will run from 6-10 p.m every last Friday of the month. Happening right alongside the Art Market in Waterloo Public Square on Final Fridays is Duels - artists going head to head in epic showdowns helping to settle many of the pressing questions facing Waterloo today. Questions like: • What makes a better fort, balloons or cardboard? • Jazz or Classical Music? • Keyboard or Synth?

From 7-9 p.m. on May 26, join artists Drew Ripley (Team Balloons) and Agnes Niewadomski (Team Cardboard) and help them build the best forts Waterloo has ever seen

Final Fridays - Duels!

Date: May 26, 2017

Location: 75 King St. S., Waterloo, ON

Join us for Duels - artists going head to head in epic showdowns helping to settle many of the pressing questions facing Waterloo today.  Questions like: What makes a better fort, balloons or cardboard? Jazz or Classical Music? Keyboard or Synth?

From 6-10 p.m. on May 26, join artists Drew Ripley (Team Balloons) and Agnes Niewadomski (Team Cardboard) and help them build the best forts Waterloo has ever seen! 

June 30th from 7-9pm, there will be a dance duel featuring Hepcat Hoppers!

July 28th from 7-9pm, Keyboard/Synth Duel (Featuring Matt Weidinger vs Nick Barkley with Ryan Allen, Rick Wren and Rick Barbosa)

August 25th from 7-9pm, Classical Music vs Jazz Music

September 29th time TBD, Org Battle - Arts Obstacle Course

Community Church Service and Picnic at Waterloo Park

Date: June 04, 2017

Location: 50 Young St W, Waterloo, ON

Mount Zion Lutheran Church invites the community to worship outdoors with our congregation in the main picnic shelter of Waterloo Park (use Westmount at University entrance) at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, followed by a potluck picnic lunch and games.

The shelter has water and electricity, with picnic tables to seat 100; washrooms nearby. Dress casually and bring your own drinks, cutlery, plates and potluck food to share (sandwiches, wraps, salads, dessert, etc). There’s also room for your own lawn chairs.

Volunteer as an Event Helper with Open Streets

Date: June 18, 2017

Location: 75 King St. S., Waterloo, ON

Join our team of Event Helper volunteers who help deliver Open Streets Festival to the community one Sunday per month in June, July, August and September.

Three shifts available:

Set up 10:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m.,

Customer Service 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. or

Tear down 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Must have excellent customer service skills. Set up or Tear down shifts involve lifting up to 30 pounds.

Open Streets

Date: June 18, 2017

Location: 75 King St. S., Waterloo, ON

Open Streets are all about the livable cities movement! These community events promote walking, dancing, playing and socializing.

You're invited to enjoy live music, art activities, community groups, businesses, eateries and more.

2017 Open Streets dates:

June 18 - noon until 5 p.m.

July 16 - noon until 5 p.m.

Aug. 20 - noon until 5 p.m.

Sept. 17 - noon until 5 p.m.

New format - still awesome

We're changing the format of Open Streets for 2017. Due to all of the construction taking place in and around uptown Waterloo we are unable to close any streets this year. Because of this, Open Streets will be taking place along the Laurel and Spurline Trails in uptown Waterloo this year.

There will be five distinct nodes of activity along the trail system during each of the four dates.

Node #1 - Green Space beside the Laurel Trail south of Erb Street

Node #2 - Under the Willow Tree at the back of the Waterloo City Centre parking lot

Node #3 - Near the flagpole at Waterloo City Centre

Node #4 - In the laneway next to the Button Factory

Node #5 - Waterloo Public Square

Along the Trail (AtT) - other programming will occur on the Spur Line and Laurel trails

Activities and events include exhibit openings, performances, community art, demonstrations, artist talks and readings, as well as dinner, drinks and specials at restaurants. With so many activities, you'’ll never have a reason to leave Uptown!
