Waterloo Park's 125th birthday celebration

Date: August 19, 2018

Location: Waterloo Park, Waterloo, ON

From noon to 5 p.m. - Open Streets Uptown Waterloo is presenting Day of Play - Instruments. Live music, giant instruments, interactive activities, workshops and more are happening along the park's central promenade (the portion of the Trans Canada Trail that runs adjacent to the ION track through the park).

 

From 5 to 9 p.m. - Bring a picnic or pick up something to eat at the food trucks and meet at Waterloo Park's band shell (Westmount Road and Father David Bauer Drive entrances). Along with food trucks, there will be live music and fun activities for the family including a scavenger hunt, face-painting, art workshops with the artists in residence, bouncy castles and more followed by a sing-a-long movie in the park, Grease, sponsored by Your Neighbourhood Credit Union.

Afghan Independence Day Celebration

Date: August 19, 2018

Location: 50 Young St W, Waterloo, ON

This will be a public event for everyone to come and celebrate the Afghan Independence day in addition to the Eid-ul Adha.

The event will be free of charge with performances and speakers in addition to some food vendors that we may assign to come and sell food. Please let us know what are the requirements for the food set up before we go ahead and prepare for it. Any questions, please call or email.

Twenty-Three in UpTown

Artist in Residence: Word Walk along the Trails

The City of Waterloo is pleased to announce Denise St Marie and Timothy Walker of St Marie φ Walker as the 2018 Artist in Residence. Denise St Marie and Timothy Walker are collaborative artists who create experiences that explore themes of shared spaces, perception, value, language, dialogue, and social relations.


This year's residency will take place in Waterloo Park to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the park. Hands-on workshops, word walks, storytelling activities, word treasure hunts, and activities will take place throughout the summer in different locations in the park from June to September.


The Artists in Residence will take participants on a structured "word walk" that runs through the basics of writing reflective aphorisms. The word walk looks to combine activity and prose with a variety of themes so as to guide people through the process with ease.


Location: Harvest Tables in Waterloo Park West
Times walks leave: 1pm, 3pm, & 5pm

Final Fridays

Final Fridays showcases art, culture, and cuisine of Uptown Waterloo on the last Friday of each month.

Activities and events include exhibit openings, performances, community art, demonstrations, artist talks and readings, as well as dinner, drinks and specials at restaurants. With so many activities, you'’ll never have a reason to leave Uptown!

Royal Medieval Faire

Date: September 15, 2018

The Royal Medieval Faire is an interactive day consisting of vendors, hands-on displays, food & beverages, games, celtic music, magic, swordplay, ceili (old-fashion Irish dance), authentic costumes & decorations, plus much more.

 

The Royal Medieval Faire will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 11am - 6pm in Waterloo Park West.

General admission: $10.00 (ages 14 and up); Children: $5.00 (ages 13 and under); Family admission: $20 (up to 4 people, maximum 2 general admission); Babes in arms are free.

 

This event is suitable for all ages and has something to offer everyone. The admission covers everything in the park except vendor merchandise, food and beverages. It is a great day for the entire family and those interested in history and the arts. Join us on faire day to celebrate our 21st year!!
