Culture lives here

We offer a lively cultural lifestyle with exceptional services and businesses. Waterloo's uptown is an urban escape that boasts critically acclaimed restaurants and unique shopping experiences.

Waterloo Public Square and Waterloo Park are gathering spaces for the community to host and participate in a variety of world-class events and festivals. The community enjoys between 400 and 500 events annually at these two premier sites.

Waterloo's music scene offers club venues and concert halls to enjoy everything from classical to jazz, rock and electronic music - live all year!

Cultural institutes such as the Clay and Glass Gallery and the Button Factory bring together the arts, while the stories of our heritage are captured at the City of Waterloo Museum. Organized walking tours bring Waterloo's history to life while the Doors Open Waterloo Region event allows people an inside look at historical buildings across the city.

Residents enjoy the cinema at several brand name movie theatres across the city, or at the independently owned and operated Princess Cinemas, located right in uptown Waterloo.

Waterloo offers a spectrum of arts and entertainment that increase and enhance the quality of life of our community.

Culture is the heartbeat of our community.

The development of culture in Waterloo is a priority. That is why our council-approved culture plan will guide how we support local cultural development during the next 10 years. The goal of this plan is to make Waterloo an even more vibrant city in which to live, work, learn and play. We view this culture plan as an opportunity to support our local arts community, and also, as a proactive approach to retain and expand local businesses that value these amenities.
