Waterloo is an award winning bike friendly city.

In 2011, we were proud to receive the Bicycle Friendly Communities Award from the Share the Road Cycling Coalition. This award recognizes the work we have done to be more bike friendly as well as the community support for a more bike friendly culture.

With more than 150 kilometres of off-road multi-use trails and 60 kilometres of on-road cycling lanes, the City of Waterloo encourages cycling in our community. Much of our city is accessible by bike, including a portion of Davenport Road, which was made into a complete street - completely accessible to all modes of transportation.

We continue to demonstrate our commitment to cycling by working to develop a more sustainable transportation system for Waterloo. These efforts include our active transportation program.

The goals of this three-year program include:

  • New bike racks at city facilities and in the uptown core
  • Bicycle storage lockers in Waterloo Public Square
  • Improvements to two high priority active transportation routes
