Whether it be an urgent care clinic, a family doctor, specialist or one of two hospitals - Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital, residents of Waterloo have access to healthcare in many different forms.

The latest addition to our healthcare network is the Medical Centre at The Boardwalk on Ira Needles Boulevard.

This state-of-the-art medical facility will open in fall 2013 and will house physicians, specialists, nurses and technicians to provide exceptional healthcare to our community.

In recent news, the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care recently awarded the Schlegel organization a 192-bed long-term care and research facility, to be located on the north campus Research + Technology Park of the University of Waterloo. Construction began in 2012 and is expected to be complete in 2014, with a total construction cost of about $130 million. Dr. Ron Schlegel will construct a $3 million Learning, Research and Innovation Centre onsite to house the faculty, staff and labs for this long-term care facility - with the goal of helping the Province of Ontario prepare for an aging population.
