Balsillie School of International Affairs

The Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) is an institute for advanced research, education, and outreach on global governance.

Named after Jim Balsillie, the BlackBerry co-CEO who donated $33 million for its establishment, this joint venture by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University is located in uptown Waterloo, adjacent to CIGI, on land that once housed the Seagram Distillery. The three storey, 50,000 sq.ft graduate school opened in the fall of 2011 on land leased to the school by the City of Waterloo. 

This academic institution offers world-class programs that aim to develop new solutions to humanity’s critical problems, improve global governance, and enhance the quality of people’s lives around the world.
